NUTTALL/ WHATMOUGH/SUNDERLAND
from David Nuttall
" I have just become an member of the LFHHS and
recently received my introductory pack. and am looking forward to becoming
an active member in due course. Although being resident in Idle, Bradford,
it may prove a little difficult.
My ancestors, it appears hail from the Bury/ Haslingden
area At this juncture I am stuck on my paternal GGGGrandparents. They are
JOHN & MARY
NUTTALL (nee WHATMOUGH) I have a hunch, and
it's a pretty good one, that they were married in 1840.
The IGI website has thrown up their marriage as
being in 1840 and the details as "OF HASLINGDEN."
This marriage actually appears in the IGI as having
taken place at Bury St. Mary, 1th February 1833.-ed.
If any member who may have a similar interest in these
two individuals, would like to contact me then I would be delighted to
share any common interest.
I am a Lancastrian and very proud of it, although I am now living in the
white rose county. I was born in ASHTON-under-LYNE, in 1951, the second
child and eldest son of Ronald and Elsie (nee SUNDERLAND) Nuttall. Sadly
my mother passed away in 1999, but my father remains active and still
resides in the same house he moved to in 1954/5."
My contact details, for those who wish to contact me
are as follows - email: idledave@aol.com
LAW/ LORD/ GREENWOOD
When I was at the NW Family History Fair in Manchester,
I was given the following details, from Mrs. Edna Crowther, 2 Greensnook
Terrace, Bacup, Lancs OL13 9DG (member 7359).
"My Gt Gt Grandfather was Samuel Law of the Parish of
Whalley whose marriage to Ellen Lord of Spotland took place at St. Chad’s,
Rochdale on the 25th of August 1826.
All their children were baptised at Ebenezer Baptist
Church in Bacup". Mary (1826) was born at Heightside; Samuel (1827);
George (1829); Richard (1830) James (1831); Robert? (1832); James (1833)
were all born at Meadows. Edmund Law
(Mrs Crowther’s ancestor) was born at Jeffery Barn in
1835. Then Betty (1836) and Ellen (1838).
1841 - 1861 they were living at Dykes Barn, Bacup.
Samuel was a weaver/farmer born c1799/1800. Ellen was 4 years older.
Samuel died in 1868. Ellen in 1869, both are buried in Bacup cemetery".
Mrs Crowther will be happy to give further information
on this family. She has census details for Edmund up to 1891.
If you have Rossendale Ancestry, you may send details
of your research for inclusion in our monthly newsletter. We are also
happy to print short articles and queries on the neighbourhood, as space
allows. Please add your membership number.
Tangled Relationships

her travels.
WHAT RELATION IS YOUR:
1. Father’s Brother’s Uncle’s Sister?
2. Grandmother’s Nephew’s Daughter?
3. Aunt’s Mother’s Father’s Wife?
4. Mother’s Aunt’s Grandson?
5. Brother’s Son’s Sister’s Mother?
6. Cousin’s Aunt’s Daughter’s Brother
7, Sister in Law’s Father in Law’s Grandson?
8. Sister’s Father’s Stepson’s Mother?

10. Niece’s Father’s only Brother.
11. Aunt’s Husband’s Sister’s Daughter
12. Aunt’s Mother’s Granddaughter’s Only Sibling.
Unfortunately Mary didn’t pick up the answers, so you
can argue it out among yourselves.
