At the last count we had 65 members who had listed Rossendale as their branch of choice. We hope you will continue to attend our meetings throughout the coming year. Subscriptions are now due. Rossendale Ancestry

Mrs Arlene Mauer, 141 Colonade Cir Naples, Florida is seeking information on Elizabeth Hartley born c1838 in Haslingden.

brianwinter@brianwinter.freeserve.co.uk is interested in Wallace Winter, a groom who was living at Cliffe Tower near Edenfield in 1881. He was aged 21 born in Newchurch.

I have just received a letter from Mrs B. Robinson 137 Gretna Road, Coventry CV3 6D5. I have no precise details regarding her family except that she is researching Hoyle and Heyworth in the Bacup area. She is struggling with the geography and says:
"I have written to Rochdale library, but have had no reply yet... Places which my mother gave me are Heald, Heald Farm, Plantation Terrace? Weir and Stacksteads, my gt/grandfather was of Holmes Farm, Bacup when he married c1862. In order to search the census records I would like to see where these places are in relation to each other. Could anyone advice me where I can buy a map?"
I will write back but if anyone has an interest in these names in this area perhaps you would like to take this one over.

The PRO has contracted out work on the 1901 census. It is predicted that transcription work and allied work will be available for Internet sers on 2nd January 2002 and that microfiche sets will be available at CROs and libraries on the same date. PRO Website www.pro.gov.uk
